My lawn mower wont start. its been sitting dry all winter without gas.?

Its been sitting all winter witout gas. I went to start it and it starts but then shuts right off. I did this last year and what i did was wait a month then just went to see if it would work before I trashed it, and boom started up. what do I do when it sits long dry and want to start it up.Is there a process?

    Check the spark plug. Change the oil…

    Put in a new plug. Clean the air filter. Change the oil. Put in fresh gas. Put oil and grease where it needs it, then crank it. If it don’t start with that, then you may have to clean out the carburetor. My tiller did the same thing. It stopped about 10 times while I was tilling a 4 foot by 30 foot plot. My neighbor who is a mechanic put in a new plug and cleaned the fly wheel of rust. It now runs as good as new. Most of the starting problems clear up with a new plug yearly.
